The first Rivian Electric Delivery Vans arrive in Europe as Amazon announced that more than 300 vans are hitting the road across Germany over the coming weeks. The electric vans will be used to deliver packages across major cities including Munich, Berlin and Dusseldorf. This is a huge step in expanding our reach into Europe and adding to the electrification of the European transportation network.
“We’re thrilled to see the EDV rolling out in Germany today. This vehicle was designed in conjunction with our partners at Amazon and not only puts driver convenience and safety first, but also the environment. We’ve had incredible feedback from drivers in the US and we're excited to start international expansion in Germany. Today is a real milestone for us as it also marks the first Rivian vehicles in Europe and we’re very excited about our future in the region.”

The Electric Delivery Vans for Amazon are designed from the ground-up, prioritizing safety, sustainability and comfort for drivers. Safety-first vehicle features have been rigorously tested to ensure the protection of drivers and pedestrians. This includes automatic emergency breaking, collision warnings and 360-degree visibility. Additional custom design choices were based on extensive driver feedback including first-of-its-kind technology that integrates the delivery workflow with the vehicle, an ergonomically designed driver’s cabin and a powered bulkhead door that opens when drivers reach delivery destinations.
In Europe, Amazon and Rivian specially designed a shorter, thinner van than its U.S. counterpart in order to better fit in Europe’s cities.
Since our partnership announcement in 2019, Amazon has been delivering packages with the Electric Delivery Van in over 500 U.S. cities and regions with more than 3,000 vans already on the road.
In an effort to create a more sustainable delivery fleet, Amazon aims to have 100,000 electric delivery vehicles from Rivian on the road globally by 2030. For Amazon, this is an important part of decarbonizing its last mile logistics as well as accelerating innovation that could help others reach net-zero carbon.
