There are now three drive system configurations available for R1.

For ultimate performance on-road and off, our flagship Quad-Motor will do things no other production vehicle is capable of. If you want additional range and still want incredible power, but don’t quite need the capability of Quad-Motor, Performance Dual-Motor is the one for you. If your focus is only efficiency, Dual-Motor delivers.

No matter which one you choose, all three have the unique abilities and strengths you’ll only find in a Rivian.

Experience the full potential of our new drive system with Performance Dual-Motor. Developed and manufactured entirely in-house, the system is purpose-built from the ground up to deliver impressive power, exceptional All-Wheel Drive control and improved range.

Reach 0-60 mph in as quick as 3.5 seconds. Tow up to 11,000 lbs with R1T and 7,700 lbs with R1S. With our Large pack battery and 21" Road all-season wheels, both vehicles deliver an EPA-estimated 352 miles of range. With our Max pack battery, R1T delivers a Rivian-estimated 400 miles of range, with R1S delivering 390 miles.

Each drive unit is capable of 428 lb-ft of torque and 350 hp. We then tune the precise amount of torque and horsepower between the two motors to achieve maximum performance while also maintaining the highest levels of control. At its peak, the system delivers 829 lb-ft of torque and 665 hp. This optimized calibration of horsepower and torque allows us to deliver on the acceleration, performance and vehicle dynamics targets we set, including an improved towing experience with heavier loads and steep grades.

With Performance Dual-Motor, you unlock Sport mode – and the ability to reach 0-60 mph in as quick as 3.5 seconds. Sport mode also engages our lowest ride height setting, bringing you closer to the pavement for optimal stance at takeoff.

Similar to the way we continue to expand our Quad-Motor drive modes, Performance Dual-Motor will see drive mode enhancements in the future. Sent via over-the-air software update, these dynamic improvements will add capability to your vehicle, continuing to upgrade its performance over time.

Performance Dual-Motor also offers a suite of standard drive modes: Towing, All-Terrain, Snow, and for everyday driving, All-Purpose.

In All-Purpose mode, when optimal conditions are detected, the system defaults to front-wheel drive to maximize range. When accelerating heavily or when a loss of traction is detected, the system automatically engages All-Wheel Drive. This is achieved with new rear-axle disconnect hardware. In All-Terrain, Snow, Tow and Sport modes, All-Wheel Drive is always engaged for performance and safety.

With its unique combination of front-to-rear torque vectoring and advanced brake technologies controlling torque bias left to right, Performance Dual-Motor provides confident handling at all speeds, and on any surface.

As with all R1 vehicles, our electro-hydraulic roll control system continuously adjusts stability, ride comfort and body roll, with active damping monitoring the road and driver inputs every 5 milliseconds to adjust your suspension. With the same advanced systems and software stack as all R1 vehicles, Performance Dual-Motor delivers an unmistakable Rivian experience.

For those who don’t quite need top end performance, Dual-Motor is the choice. Dual-Motor delivers the same maximum range estimates, All-Wheel Drive capabilities and towing capacity as Performance Dual-Motor, but does so with less overall horsepower and torque. Dual-Motor is still capable of 533 hp and 610 lb-ft of torque, reaching 0-60 mph in as quick as 4.5 seconds.

Dual-Motor is also equipped with the same standard suite of drive modes as Performance Dual-Motor – All-Purpose, Tow, All-Terrain and Snow. Access to Sport mode is not enabled. Through over-the-air software updates, the system is capable of adding functionality and drive modes in the future.

With 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque, Rivian Quad-Motor vehicles can climb 100% grade and reach 0-60 mph in as quick as 3 seconds. Its instant power and ability to independently and proactively adjust torque at each wheel enables 4-wheel torque vectoring — allowing each wheel to independently help accelerate, decelerate and even turn the vehicle. No other production vehicle offers this level of both on-road performance and off-road capability.

Quad-Motor offers our largest array of drive modes — ten modes and counting — each designed to accentuate the system’s incomparable abilities. Whether that means ultimate cornering stability, rock crawling, sand running, hard accelerations, backroad cruising, heavy towing or deep snow — our Quad-Motor system is unmatched.
