Today, we published our first Impact Report and Goals, detailing the early stretch of our journey and how we're setting the pace for the path ahead.

Since day one, Rivian has oriented our business around pursuing an optimistic vision for our planet’s future. By creating vehicles that enable electric adventure on just about any terrain, we invite people and businesses to join us in advancing that vision one step at a time — through shrinking our environmental footprint, being champions for nature and accelerating the global energy revolution.

For us, this is just the beginning. Our Impact Report provides the foundation necessary to stay on course.

Over the past two years we've produced and delivered tens of thousands of all-electric, high-performance trucks, SUVs and vans — our R1T, R1S and Rivian Commercial Van — to customers across the U.S. and Canada, putting more drivers behind the wheel of zero-tailpipe emission vehicles every day.

We know that making and selling electric vehicles is not enough. For EVs to be part of the bigger solution to cut global emissions, we have to pursue innovation in every step of the process. This includes addressing the environmental and community impacts associated with building and driving our vehicles. That's why we've established impact goals to measure and report our progress.

While this is only the start, we take our efforts and ambitions for the planet seriously. Our first Impact Report takes stock of where we've been and where we're going in the years ahead, so that we can openly share our impact along the way.

OUR PATH TO DATE

From the first sketch to our first customer delivery to our production ramp, we've deliberately put impact at the center of our growing business. Here are five key impact highlights to note:

Delivering Impact at Scale

Our all-electric Rivian Commercial Van gets packages to your doorstep with 50% less carbon emissions compared with gas-powered models, according to our first-ever comprehensive study of its carbon footprint. We recently announced the launch of our Rivian Commercial Van to businesses across the US — enabling commercial transportation fleets to drastically reduce their carbon emissions.

Creating U.S. Jobs

Rivian has so far created roughly 8,000 well-paying manufacturing jobs at our plant in Normal, Illinois – more than double the workforce that formerly built conventional cars and trucks in the same factory location. Over the next few years, we expect to create approximately 7,500 more jobs at Rivian’s new manufacturing facility in Georgia.

Sustainability From the First Sketch

At Rivian quality goes hand in hand with sustainability. It means our products perform reliably for our customers, can be repaired when necessary, and, at the end of life, can be broken down with materials recovered, reused and/or recycled. We’ve set up our business to analyze every bolt, stitch, and finish in our vehicles to achieve longevity, energy efficiency, sustainable materials and waste elimination.

Putting Renewable Energy in Your Hands

While our vehicles have a lower carbon footprint than similar-sized gas-powered models, the positive impact of any EV won’t be fully realized unless we transform our electricity grid so every mile is powered by carbon-free energy. The Rivian Adventure Network has always been powered by 100% renewable energy derived from highly impactful projects such as Rivian’s solar project in Paris, Tennessee and in the coming years from the Starfire Renewable Energy Center with plans to transform the Starfire Coal Mine into Kentucky’s Largest Renewable Power Project.

Amplifying Our Impact

Rivian is just one part of an extraordinary ecosystem of organizations and individuals working tirelessly to solve the climate crisis and protect treasured lands and waters for future generations. To support this broader movement, we pledged 1% of Rivian’s pre-IPO equity to create a philanthropic fund that will grow as Rivian grows, transforming our planet and all communities into shareholders in our mission. The Rivian Foundation will launch publicly in the near future.

THE JOURNEY AHEAD

We want to come together as individuals, communities, businesses and governments to forge a future in which our planet thrives. That's why our impact goals are ambitious, rigorous, aimed where we can make the biggest difference, and designed to support a healthy, growing business. Here are a few of our key impact goals:

100%

We aim to source 100% renewable energy to power our manufacturing plant in Normal, Illinois by 2030. We also intend to power other Rivian facilities with 100% renewable energy.

Since the biggest source of EV emission comes from charging, we're continuing to power Rivian charging networks with 100% renewable energy.

2 Gigawatts

We plan to support or accelerate high-impact renewable projects capable of generating 2GW of renewable energy by 2030 for customer charging — enough to power at least 7 billion miles of renewable driving every year.

We’re setting a goal to launch a product with half the lifecycle carbon footprint compared to our 2022 R1 products by 2030.

Our Impact Journey

We plan to increase the percentage of recycled materials used in our vehicles and achieve a minimum of 70% recycled content in steel and aluminum and 40% recycled and bio-based content in polymers by 2030.

360°

We're working to implement a 360-degree model to design, keep in use, recover, and reuse vehicles and key materials by 2030.

50%

To ensure all Rivian employees experience a genuine sense of community, value, and belonging — regardless of where they work or what role they hold — we’ve set rigorous goals to support diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging across our business. This includes our intent to increase the number of employees who identify as an underrepresented group to 50% of our entire US employee base by 2028.
