Dual-Motor Our Dual-motor delivers incredible all-wheel drive capability along with 665 horsepower and 0–60 mph in as quick as 3.4 seconds for the Performance variant.
Tri-Motor Our all-new 850 horsepower Tri-motor packs two motors in the rear and one in front for a blend of exceptional power and range. The Tri-motor R1T delivers 0–60 mph in 2.9 seconds while offering an estimated range of 380 miles. In Conserve Mode, the estimated range is up to 405 miles.
Quad-Motor For peak adventure, our new 1,025 horsepower Quad-motor delivers 0–60 mph in less than 2.5 seconds in R1T—and ¼ mile in 10.5 seconds—with a staggering 1,198 lb-ft of torque when using Launch Mode. 60–80 mph acceleration is 1.5 seconds, with incredible torque control at each wheel for superior on-road performance and off-road capability.
Launch Mode is available with Tri and Quad-Motor. Please use it responsibly.
Our newest drive unit houses two motors, used in the rear of the Tri-motor and in both the front and rear of the Quad-motor. With Quad, the two-motor front drive unit is smaller, optimized for efficiency at cruising speeds. The rear application is much larger, geared to maximize torque to the tires’ traction limit. In both Tri and Quad variants, while operating in Conserve mode, an automatic rear disconnect ensures AWD performance is always available, but intuitively turns off when driving demand doesn't require it, helping you maximize range when you need it, and performance when you want it.
All Rivian motors are oil-cooled, significantly improving thermal performance during high-torque, low-speed driving such as rock crawling while also improving range efficiency during low-torque, high-speed cruising.
All Rivian motors are now designed, engineered and manufactured in-house.
With Product Engineers working closely with Manufacturing Engineers from the earliest stages of development on our new drive unit, we are able to assemble both the larger rear unit and the smaller front unit on the same production line. Designing, engineering and manufacturing all motors in-house enables us to accelerate speed to market and increase production efficiency, improving the experience for our customers and simultaneously reducing cost.

Our second generation R1 vehicles feature an entirely new electrical architecture and compute platform developed in-house by our hardware and software team. This significant update to our onboard computing system makes our vehicles more robust, less costly to produce and easier to service—all while improving the experience for our customers. Our new system also dramatically improves scalability for deployment in future vehicles.
“While the exterior of the R1 looks similar, the electrical system is completely redone, providing a significant increase in features as well as a dramatic increase in sensing and compute capability.”
— Vidya Rajagopalan, SVP, Electrical Hardware
Core to the new system is a substantial reduction in the number of electronic control units (ECUs) used to control the vehicle, down from 17 different ECUs in our first generation to just seven ECUs in our second generation. This massive simplification has been achieved by shifting to a zonal architecture and by significantly increasing the computational capabilities of each of our ECUs. While infotainment, autonomy, vehicle access, drive units and our battery management system each have their own ECU, every other vehicle function is controlled by just three ECUs.
Our new zonal architecture is more robust, less costly to produce and easier to service.
Shifting to a zonal system enabled us to remove over 1.6 miles (2.6km) of wiring from each vehicle, shedding 44 lbs (20kg) of weight. This reduction in wiring, along with the elimination of 10 ECUs, greatly reduces production costs. Fewer components needing to be installed during assembly also improves manufacturing efficiency, allowing us to build vehicles more quickly and with better quality. With less components onboard, vehicles are easier to service and require us to stock fewer parts, improving serviceability.

We have also completely redeveloped our infotainment platform to substantially increase its vision processing capabilities, enabled by advanced AI-based computer vision software. Our second generation introduces the most extensive update to our UI since launch. While many of the features will be sent to our first-generation vehicles as well, enhanced capabilities in our new vehicles enable even greater functionality.
“The new technology platform gives us the foundations to take our refined and connected vehicle experience to the next level with our in-house Rivian software stack.”
— Wassym Bensaid, Chief Software Officer
We developed the Rivian Autonomy Platform in-house to enable optimal performance of our system and increased scalability for future feature updates. Powered by entirely new perception hardware and software, the system fuses inputs from an array of 11 internally developed cameras and five radars performing over 250 trillion operations per second, an industry leading level of compute power. This multimodal sensor approach excels at perceiving different types of information, offering redundancy for improved detection.Â
Our redesigned driver display, with 360-degree Drive View.
Our 11 high-resolution cameras, including new 4K HDR units, have 360-degree visibility, can see three times farther than our previous system, and up to 10 seconds ahead at highway speeds. With the most camera megapixels of any electric vehicle in North America, the improved dynamic range enables clear vision in high-contrast scenarios like tunnel entrances and exits, and in low-light conditions such as fog or nighttime. There is also a driver-facing camera in the rearview mirror designed primarily to detect driver fatigue and distraction when the vehicle is in Enhanced Highway Assist mode, planned to roll out later this year.
Our multimodal sensor approach offers redundancy for improved detection.
Five advanced radars, including a Front Imaging Radar, detect objects up to 1,000-feet away even in challenging weather and lighting conditions. Corner radars work alongside our surround-view cameras, which have overlapping fields of view to track objects in all directions simultaneously. These radars serve as a vital backup to the cameras, particularly in situations where dirt or grime could obscure a camera lens.
“For most owners, their R1 Gen 2 will be the most powerful computer that they own.”
— James Philbin, VP Autonomy and AI
Dual NVIDIA DRIVE Orin processors running DRIVE OS help power the Autonomy Compute Module on Rivian's second generation R1, delivering 10 times more compute performance than our previous system.
The new system also utilizes AI software to anticipate, plan and react in real time. Many of the same architectural elements as large language models—called “Vision Transformers”—are used to perceive and understand surroundings, predict the behavior of others and prepare your vehicle for what might come next. Using end-to-end training, our system constantly learns and enhances over time, enabling unparalleled quality and scalability.
