Rivian’s newest addition to the R1 lineup is a perfect blend of power and performance with considered design and features to match.
The second generation R1 vehicles brought many changes to our flagship — over 600 to be exact. Among them was the addition of an all-new variant: the Tri-Motor. Tri-Motor was purpose-built to offer an elevated take on adventure, offering more power beyond Dual and more range than Quad, while immersing passengers in premium interior details that elevate the experience.
Power and Performance Anywhere
Tri-Motor packs two motors in the rear and one in front for exceptional capability both on and off-road. All motors on all Rivian vehicles are now designed, engineered and manufactured fully in-house offering total control and upgradability over time via software updates.
“While developing the Gen 2 R1, we wanted to offer something new in our lineup. The Tri-Motor brings a unique mix of power, performance, capability and range that is better than the Gen 1 Quad, while elevating the interior cabin with our new Ascend interior trim. This is such a great vehicle.”
RJ Scaringe Rivian Founder & CEO
Tri-Motor offers 850 horsepower with an EPA-estimated range of 371 miles.* In Conserve Mode, the estimated range is up to 405 miles and offers an automatic rear disconnect ensuring AWD performance is always available, but intuitively turns off when driving demand doesn't require it — helping you maximize range when you need it, and performance when you want it.
Tri-Motor also marks the debut of Launch Mode on the new R1, propelling R1T to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. When in Sport Mode, drivers can access Launch Mode from the drive mode screen, by selecting the checkered flag image and sliding up to activate. Launch Mode will capture 0-60 mph and 0-100 mph times, top speed and peak g-force all on the driver information screen — and will also capture your launch experience via the front camera.**
Thoughtful Design and Crafted Accents
Tri-Motor ushers in a whole new level of interior detail for R1. Named “Ascend” this new premium interior includes quilted seats, extended stitching, cut and sew material on the entire door panels, center console and instrument panel, plaid detailing throughout with plaid floormats and a new deep bronze finish on the interior brightwork. Even the rear of the driver and passenger seat are wrapped with a unique new fabric.
“No detail was overlooked when we designed Tri’s interior. We wanted to create something elevated yet very inviting. It all started with plaid floor mats when incorporating the plaid details in the Ascend interior. If you look at the side of the headrests, the backside of the grab handles, the back of the seat, even the bands on the storage panels in the door, all have subtle touches of plaid. While it may not be immediately seen, it’s that attention to detail that sets us apart and elevates Rivian.”
Jeff Hammoud Rivian Chief Design Officer
Ascend offers three unique interior color options, elevating the journey with inviting materials, meticulous craft and elevated upgrades. The evolved colors and finishes pull inspiration from the natural world around us, while the eye-catching details like bronze accents and woven plaid add visual interest and warm texture throughout the interior.
The Black Mountain with Brown Ash Wood interior is inspired by rocky peaks dotted with trees, offering nature-inspired colors and warm inviting tones. The available Ocean Coast with Driftwood brings a lighter, airier feel to the cabin and was inspired by the luminous beaches of northern California, where sandy shores, cool skies and weathered driftwood meet. The all-new Slate Sky with Walnut option offers two-tone seats and door panels, taking cues from overcast beach days, pairing calming greys with plaid details and walnut wood accents for a refined experience.
New colors aren’t just for the interior. On the outside, Rivian Yellow denotes the Tri-Motor configuration behind the emblems and on the brake calipers. An all-new Storm Blue exterior color option meshes the deep gray blue of thunderclouds with a subtle metallic gloss that shifts with the light.
Tri-Motor brings with it a whole set of included upgrades:

* Actual vehicle capability will depend on selected options and trim. Torque, horsepower, and acceleration timing estimates vary based on battery, tire, drive modes, vehicle load and weather. All range estimates are based on a configuration with 22" road wheels and tires. Official EPA values are noted — some range estimates are preliminary estimates based on the EPA test cycle and are not official EPA values. The EPA estimates range through a series of standardized lab tests that mimic real world conditions. Factors including tires, drive modes, HVAC settings and accessories can all have an impact on range.
** Launch Mode is designed for use on a closed circuit track in dry road conditions. Do not use Launch Mode on public roadways where traffic or pedestrians are present. It is the driver’s responsibility to drive safely and pay attention to the road. Rivian does not endorse reckless or dangerous driving. Drive with caution.
