Over 5,000 Rivian employees and their loved ones came together this past weekend to unwind, enjoy some summer fun and celebrate the phenomenal progress at our plant in Normal, Illinois.
Continuing an important local tradition, the production floor is opened up at key points in the year to give our families, friends and neighbors a firsthand glimpse at what we're building together, alongside a mix of family-friendly activities both inside and out. With three different shifts running through the week, it's also a rare opportunity for our whole Normal-based team to come together and connect as one.
Overnight, volunteers from the team worked in collaboration with community partners and local businesses to transform the plant into a fairground — part playground, part petting zoo, adventure park, nature center, barbecue festival and ice cream parlor.
As always, the Rivian vehicles themselves were a highlight for many, with a variety of R1Ts, R1Ss and EDVs on hand to explore. Whether it's comparing notes on our favorite R1S configurations, the endless fun of treating R1T like a jungle gym, or playing delivery driver from the front seat of an EDV, the vehicles continue to delight us. And as something new for this year's event, budding engineers and technicians were able to hop inside a fully kitted Rivian Service Van.
Even with a rock climbing wall, a sheep named Rivian, live music, hay rides, and bounce houses, the main attraction was the dunk tank, where everyone had the chance to help plant leaders cool off.
