We designed our R1T and R1S interiors to feel modern and comfortable, but also easy to clean — premium spaces that can handle dirt, sand or whatever you might spill or track into the cabin. Striking that balance between premium and utility meant choosing the right materials.
Our vegan leather seating material isn’t just supportive and comfortable; it's also durable, UV-resistant and a breeze to clean and maintain. We test this material to simulate 150,000 miles of use, including getting in and out of the vehicle thousands of times, to ensure it holds up.
Now, we’re offering the same vegan leather as a new accent option for our Black Mountain and Ocean Coast interiors. In addition to our ash wood options, you can configure both interiors with a combination of woven fabric trim and the same color accents used for our seats.
Production of the vegan leather interior accents in both Ocean Coast and Black Mountain is planned to begin in early 2023.
“We wanted to offer a clean, simple aesthetic with these materials, but to do it in a way that still provided some nice contrast and an elevated tactile touch,” says Sophia Park, Color and Materials designer.
“The new Ocean Coast trim configuration, in particular, is a great option for those looking for a lighter interior palette,” says Aileen Barraza, Rivian’s Senior Manager of Colors, Materials and Finishes. “Using these materials really lets us deliver a light and open appearance and a harmonious environment for the cabin.”
In addition to adding new looks to our interiors, both configurations give customers the added peace of mind that comes from material that resists fading from sunlight exposure and can be easily wiped clean with common household cleaning products.
Testing for durability was conducted on all surfaces; stain resistance was conducted on all surfaces, excluding stitching.
