RJ founded our company with a vision to help secure the kind of future that our kids’ kids’ kids deserve. In that spirit, Rivian dedicated 1% of its equity at the time of our IPO in November 2021 to establish an independent philanthropic platform — the Rivian Foundation — to complement the company’s work to advance a sustainable future.

The Rivian Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) private foundation with a mission to safeguard a healthy planet so future generations can experience a world rich in abundance, wonder, and adventure — forever.

The Foundation envisions a future where our children and grandchildren can explore thriving ecosystems, from pristine rivers to biodiverse forests, experiencing the natural world’s beauty and resilience firsthand. And it aims to ensure that underrepresented communities are not only included but can lead, innovate, and thrive in the transformation to a sustainable, clean energy economy.

Within its two priority areas, “Safeguarding a Healthy Planet” and “Advancing a Better Energy Future for All,” the Foundation awards grants to empower leaders and organizations to implement innovative projects and initiatives that drive positive change and create lasting impact.

Grantmaking under “Safeguarding a Healthy Planet” focuses on support for: Local Stewardship of Healthy Lands and Waters; Equitable Access to Nature; and Natural Climate Solutions. Funding for “Advancing a Better Energy Future for All” focuses on: Clean Energy Equity; and Getting Transition Minerals Right.

The Foundation emphasizes initiatives that drive progress across multiple program areas, recognizing the interconnectedness of environmental, social, and climate challenges.
