Thousands of participants were able to experience the thrill of an R1 Quad on an off-road course—going over dirt mounds, steep slopes and more.
The Electric Joyride course was built from 2,400 cubic yards of recycled asphalt, with five obstacles to experience, including an 18-foot hill climb at nearly 35° slope and 90° Kick Turn, a Quad-exclusive feature. This event was the first time the public was invited to experience Kick Turn, which uses independent torque vectoring to instantly and precisely rotate the vehicle.
In addition to the Electric Joyride, we had a few vehicles on display for Chicagoans to check out, including our 1963 restored Airstream trailer. Our coloring-book wrapped vehicle was enjoyed by attendees of all ages, and many stopped to watch a local artist Mack Constantine live-paint an R1S.
Not only is Rivian proud to be an American company, we are proud to assemble our vehicles in Illinois. All the Rivian vehicles you see on the road today, from New York to California to Hawaii, are assembled just two hours south of Chicago in Normal, Illinois.
Those walking by our activation might have seen our sign: “Keep Chicago Adventurous Forever.” And it means exactly what it says—we want to keep this city, and the entire planet, Adventurous Forever. We want to pass on a better world to our kids, their kids, and our kids’ kids’ kids. We believe it is our generation’s responsibility to protect and preserve the world for those who follow us. And we do that by making incredible vehicles that encourage people to switch to electric, not just because it's good for the planet, but because they are a ton of fun to drive.
Our all-electric trucks and SUVs were designed to tackle all kinds of adventures, and there’s never been a better time to purchase one. Until September 30, 2025 only, take advantage of the $7,500 federal EV lease credit. Learn more about Rivian and our vehicles here.
